Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA), Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR), and Rep. Mike Ezell (R-MS) sent letters to the Federal Protective Service (FPS) and the General Services Administration (GSA) on the impact public safety may be having on space utilization in federal facilities and the associated costs to the taxpayer.

The rise in crime, drug abuse, and homelessness in recent years has created further challenges to the protection of federal buildings, as well as concerns over the safety of those that work and visit them. Safety conditions surrounding these federal building spaces have brought about significant questions surrounding the consequences of decreased public safety and how crime maybe creating more empty and unused space.

The Members requested information to better help the Committee understand the impact public safety may be having on space utilization in federal facilities and the associated costs to the taxpayer.
