Economic Development Subcommittee to Hold Hearing on Federal Office Space UtilizationEconomic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Subcommittee Chairman Scott Perry (R-PA) announced that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Federal office space utilization. The purpose of the hearing is to discuss Federal real estate, including office space utilization, focusing on a Government Accountability Office (GAO) study to be released at the hearing. The hearing follows a roundtable held by the Subcommittee in March that, among other issues, highlighted growing concerns about unassigned, unused “shadow” or “dark” space in Federal real estate. Next week’s hearing, entitled “When the Lights Are On But No One’s Home: An Examination of Federal Office Space Utilization,” will be held at 10:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, July 13, 2023, in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building.
