Sam Graves Statement on the Passing of Don YoungTransportation and Infrastructure Committee Ranking Member Sam Graves (R-MO) statement on the passing of Congressman and former Committee Chairman Don Young: “Don Young, the Dean of the House, was a legend of the United States Congress and a champion of the people of Alaska. As this Congress’ longest serving Member, and as the former Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, his tremendous breadth of experience was a great asset to all of his fellow Committee Members and the entire House of Representatives. There was no greater supporter of infrastructure among Congressional Republicans, and over the years, he led the way in passing many pieces of legislation to strengthen America’s infrastructure. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him on four highway bills, including his long-term surface transportation bill, SAFETEA-LU. He was also a fierce advocate of the United States Coast Guard, and with Congress now working to pass the next Coast Guard authorization bill, it would be a fitting tribute to name the bill in Chairman Young’s honor. I want to extend my prayers and deepest condolences to Don’s family.” |
