Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) issued the following statement after Speaker of the House Paul D. Ryan announced he will not seek re-election after serving 10 terms in the House of Representatives:

“Paul Ryan has been a leader in conservatism and served Wisconsin well as a dedicated civil servant for two decades.  Wisconsin and the entire United States have benefited from Paul’s tireless service as Speaker of the House of Representatives, his time as a Vice Presidential nominee, and his work on behalf of all Americans.  A policy expert to his core, Speaker Ryan’s knowledge and capable leadership were crucial to passing the largest reform of the Nation’s tax code in 30 years.

“In addition, Paul presided over the House during the passage of recent critical infrastructure legislation, including the FAST Act and the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act.

“I know how important Paul’s family is to him and how difficult it has been to sacrifice his time with Janna and their kids in service to our country. I wish Paul and his family the best as they begin this new chapter in their lives.”
