Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Announces Subcommittee Rosters, Approves Rules & Oversight PlanTransportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Ranking Member Peter DeFazio (D-OR) today announced subcommittee assignments for the 114th Congress. The Committee also approved the Committee rules and oversight plan during the panel’s organizational meeting today. “Our committee and subcommittees all have a lot of important work to do this Congress to help strengthen our Nation’s infrastructure – the backbone of our economy,” Shuster said. “Our responsibilities include measures to address our surface transportation and aviation systems, passenger rail transportation, pipeline safety, water resources infrastructure, emergency preparedness and management programs, and other issues. I look forward to working together with Ranking Member DeFazio and all our Members on initiatives to create jobs, ensure the competitiveness of American businesses, and improve the quality of life in our country.” “Transportation infrastructure is at the heart of the U.S. economy,” DeFazio said. “Our communities and our businesses, both big and small, depend on safe and efficient roads, rails, ports, planes, pipelines, and public transit. I look forward to working with Chairman Shuster and the rest of my colleagues to pass legislation this year that will create family-wage American jobs, drive economic growth, and bring our aging transportation infrastructure into the 21st century. Together, we can lay the groundwork for infrastructure investment that delivers for generations to come.” More information from today’s organizational meeting, including the Committee rules and oversight plan, can be found here.
