Washington, DC – Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) released the following statement today in response to FAA legislation introduced by Committee Democrats:

“It is clear that Ranking Member DeFazio and I agree that the FAA is fundamentally broken, and that federal bureaucracy and Congress have held back air traffic efficiency, innovation, and modernization for decades.

“However, we disagree on how to fix the problem.  This proposal rehashes years and years of ineffective congressional reforms aimed at allowing the FAA to act like a business and modernize the air traffic control system.  If government is clearly the problem, and if exempting air traffic control service from virtually every government system, process, and procedure is the offered solution, why keep it in the government at all?

“Congress can continue to waste taxpayer dollars on failed air traffic control modernization efforts and bureaucracy, or we can break the cycle of failure and embrace a transformational reform that has been proven around the world.

“I look forward to working with the Ranking Member to fix our broken system.”
