Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) today joined Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) at a signing ceremony for H.R. 3935, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, a comprehensive landmark piece of legislation to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and aviation infrastructure and safety programs for five years.  The bill was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, May 15th, by a vote of 387 to 26, and the President has now signed the bill into law.

The bill was first introduced in the House last year by Chairman Graves along with the bipartisan leaders of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Aviation Subcommittee.

The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 provides key aviation safety improvements, invests in infrastructure at airports of all sizes, promotes cutting-edge aviation solutions, enhances America’s aviation workforce, improves the flying public’s travel experience, and ensures a healthy general aviation sector for years to come.

“As a professional pilot and a user of the aviation system, this bill was particularly important to me,” said Chairman Graves.  “I’m extremely proud of it and the process we undertook at my committee in working across the aisle, soliciting input from all Members of the House and the aviation community, writing the legislation, and passing it through the House – twice – with increasingly overwhelming support.  The media frequently focuses on the most controversial aspects of Washington, but this is an example of Congress putting in the work to pass major transportation legislation that will benefit every American who uses the aviation system and every community that benefits from an airport, no matter how large or small.  I want to thank all my colleagues in the House and Senate who contributed to this legislation, and I want to thank Speaker Johnson and the entire Republican leadership team for their support and for placing their trust in me to lead this process and deliver a bill that our Conference overwhelmingly supported.”

“This year’s Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization—the federal law governing our nation’s aviation infrastructure and safety programs—will help ensure that America continues to lead the world in aviation innovation and airline safety. Our Conference commends Chairman Sam Graves for getting this crucial legislation across the finish line with an overwhelming bipartisan vote,” said Speaker Johnson.
