Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member Sam Graves (R-MO) and Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Ranking Member John Katko (R-NY) released the following joint statement regarding the President’s emergency declaration under the Stafford Act:

“We welcome the President’s emergency declaration and commend him for taking this critically important action in response to the coronavirus pandemic.  This declaration unlocks more tools to help the President and the Administration meet the challenges posed by this virus as we move forward.  In particular, this action makes available funding to assist state and local officials in the dissemination of vital health and safety information, and the distribution of medicines, food, and supplies.  As we all work together to get through this period of national emergency, we stand ready to assist the President, FEMA, and all of our Nation’s emergency responders in any way necessary.”

NOTE: The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has jurisdiction over the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act – the primary law providing for most disaster response authorities of the federal government.
