Chairman Barletta to Hold Hearing on Proposal for New FBI HeadquartersThe proposal to relocate the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will be the subject of a hearing to be chaired by Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management. The subcommittee hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building. Additional information, testimony, and live webcast will be posted here as it becomes available. (** Updated March 5, 2013: this hearing has been postponed until a later date **) The FBI and the General Services Administration (GSA) – which acts as the “landlord” for the federal government – have determined that the J. Edgar Hoover Building no longer meets the requirements of the agency due to growth, security, and information technology requirements. On Wednesday, the Subcommittee will review the need for a new FBI headquarters, examine location and financing options for such a project, and consider the future of the existing FBI headquarters building should any project proceed. “This is one of the largest, most complex projects the GSA has ever proposed,” said Barletta, who will be leading his first hearing as chairman of the Subcommittee. “As we consider whether to authorize GSA proceeding with such a project, we will continue to consider what is in the best interests of the FBI and the taxpayers.” Witnesses invited to testify include Members of Congress from the National Capital Region, the GSA and the FBI:
