Committee Leaders’ Joint Statement on Aviation Accident in TorontoWashington, D.C. – Joint statement of Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO), Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-WA), Aviation Subcommittee Chairman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX), and Aviation Subcommittee Ranking Member Steve Cohen (D-TN) following the accident involving Delta Air Lines Flight 4819 in Toronto, Canada: “The Committee is monitoring developments with the aircraft accident involving Delta Air Lines Flight 4819 from Minneapolis to Toronto, Canada. Our thoughts are with everyone who was on board the aircraft, especially those who were injured, and we are grateful for the quick actions of the flight crew and first responders. “While the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the investigation, we will stay up to date as the facts surrounding this accident are determined. The recent uptick in aviation accidents in the United States or involving U.S. air carriers has many Americans understandably worried about their safety and the safety of their loved ones when they get on a plane. However, aviation remains the safest form of transportation, and we want to assure the American people that Congress will respond in a deliberate, bipartisan way to improve safety and strengthen American leadership in aviation.” |
