Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Ranking Member Sam Graves (R-MO) and Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee Ranking Member David Rouzer (R-NC) wrote to the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to request that the agencies provide the public and the numerous impacted stakeholders a reasonable amount of time to provide input into the Administration’s plans to rewrite the federal rule defining “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) under the Clean Water Act.

The Administration announced the public comment period and meetings in the Federal Register on August 4, 2021.  The several announced public meetings were all scheduled within 30 days from the notice and were to occur only in an online setting, with no opportunities for business owners, landowners, farmers local officials, and other stakeholders to participate in discussions in-person.  In addition to an extension of the public comment period, Graves and Rouzer also requested that additional public meetings be held.  Click here to read the full letter from the Committee Republican leaders.
