Washington, DC – Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) released the following statement on the president’s budget submission:

“I strongly support the president’s continuing recognition that modernizing our country’s air traffic control service is one of the most important infrastructure investments we can make.  At its core, establishing an independent, not-for-profit organization to provide air traffic service, regulated at arm’s length by the FAA, is a transformational government reform that is essential to move America towards a 21st century aviation system that is without equal in the world.

“The Committee will continue to review the details, but the president’s budget also reflects the reality of long-term infrastructure funding in America.  The country’s leaders in Congress and the White House need to have a real and honest conversation about how to address this fundamental issue and continuing the clear constitutional federal role in infrastructure.  All solutions need to be on the table, because simply continuing with the status quo will not produce the infrastructure improvements our Nation needs.”
