Aviation Subcommittee to Hold Roundtable Meeting on FAA Air Traffic Controller Staffing

The Subcommittee on Aviation, chaired by U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), will conduct a roundtable policy discussion next week on issues related to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) air traffic controller hiring, staffing and training plans.

The roundtable will include discussion of controller hiring and staffing updates since the release of the FAA’s 2015 Controller Workforce Plan, controller staffing levels at critical air traffic control facilities, the impact of previous and future planned changes to FAA’s controller hiring process, the adequacy of controller training programs, and future staffing plans.

The roundtable is open to the public (although video recording is not permitted), and is scheduled to begin at 10:0 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 in Room 2167 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

In addition to Members of the Aviation Subcommittee, participants will include:

  • Teri Bristol, Chief Operating Officer, Air Traffic Organization (ATO), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
  • Matthew Hampton, Assistant Inspector General for Aviation Audits, Office of Inspector General, Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Paul Rinaldi, President, National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA)
