Full Committee Hearing to Focus on Modernizing Nation’s Airspace

The Full Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure will hold a hearing next week focused on preparing the next reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the modernization and operation of the U.S. airspace.

This airspace is the largest in the world, covering roughly 30.2 million square miles, or more than 17 percent of the world’s airspace.  As the demands of the Nation’s complex air traffic system have changed and grown over time, attempts have been made to address issues that have hindered the modernization and operation of the U.S. airspace.  The current FAA law expires at the end of September 2015, and as the Committee continues to develop the next reauthorization of the agency and its programs, air space and air traffic control modernization is an area of focus.

The hearing, entitled “FAA Reauthorization: Issues in Modernizing and Operating the Nation’s Airspace,” is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building.
