Artificial Intelligence in Transportation2167 Rayburn House Office BuildingThis a roundtable of the full Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.Participant list:
Opening remarks, as prepared, of Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) roundtable, entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Transportation”: We live in an exciting time where technology is always evolving. Things we used to think were impossible are regularly happening before our very eyes. A.I. is currently being deployed across the transportation industry to help improve traffic management strategies and supply chain efficiencies, expedite infrastructure project delivery timelines, promote safer roadways, and support the workforce. But this is just the beginning. The future of A.I.’s capabilities is something Congress must be informed about. We don’t want to overregulate, but we also need to understand what parameters and guidelines may be helpful to this evolving part of the transportation industry. The goal of this roundtable is to have an open dialogue about the real-world applications of A.I. in the transportation sector as well as the economic impact and security risks associated with this developing technology. Today, I hope to hear more from each of you about the ways A.I. is currently being deployed and where we are headed. I can’t speak for everyone at the table, but I hope this discussion can provide a baseline about A.I. for Members as we prepare for the next surface transportation reauthorization next Congress. |
