Committee Markup to Include Bills on Federal Leave for Disabled Veterans, REPSONSE Act, BABIES Act, Coast Guard & Maritime Transportation Amendments Act

Washington, DC – The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, chaired by U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA), is scheduled to mark up the following measures at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building:

H.R. 5957, the Federal Aviation Administration Veteran Transition Improvement Act of 2016, is a bill to ensure that veterans with a service-related disability, and newly hired by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), are initially provided with sick leave that may be used for their related medical treatment.  H.R. 5957 ensures that the FAA, which has a separate personnel management system, conforms with other federal agencies consistent with the Wounded Warriors Federal Leave Act (P.L. 114-75).

H.R. 5147, the Bathrooms Accessible in Every Situation (BABIES) Act, is a bill to require that public restrooms in federal buildings open to the general public be equipped with baby changing stations.

H.R. 5978, the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Amendments Act of 2016, is a bill that includes provisions related to the efficiency and reliability of the maritime transportation system and several requirements related to the Coast Guard’s authorities.

S. 546, the Railroad Emergency Services Preparedness, Operational Needs and Safety Evaluation (RESPONSE) Act of 2016, is legislation to enhance emergency responder training for incidents involving hazardous materials rail transportation.

H.R. 5977, to direct the Secretary of Transportation to provide to the appropriate committees of Congress advance notice of certain announcements, is legislation to ensure that the appropriate House and Senate committees consistently receive prior notification of Department of Transportation announcements of grant awards and credit assistance for transportation projects.

H.R. 5873 is legislation to designate the Federal building and United States courthouse located at 511 East San Antonio Avenue in El Paso, Texas, as the “R.E. Thomason Federal Building and United States Courthouse.”

H.R. 5011 is a bill to designate the Federal building and United States courthouse located at 300 Fannin Street in Shreveport, Louisiana, as the “Tom Stagg Federal Building and United States Courthouse.”
