A Congressional subcommittee roundtable in Atlanta next Monday will examine opportunities for saving taxpayers money by reducing costs and space of federal office leases in the Southeastern United States.

Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management Subcommittee Chairman Lou Barletta (R-PA) will lead next week’s roundtable. Participants will include the General Services Administration (GSA), the agency that manages a large portion of the federal government’s real estate and office space, as well as some of GSA’s key tenant agencies in the Southeast Region: the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Social Security Administration.

Reducing costs in federal leasing has been a focus of Chairman Barletta and the Subcommittee.  Through efforts last Congress to get GSA’s tenant agencies to improve their space utilization and reduce leasing costs, taxpayers will realize over $2 billion in savings.

The roundtable, entitled “Opportunities for Taxpayer Savings: Federally Leased Office Space in GSA’s Southeast Region,” is open to the public, and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Building (the Atlanta Conference Room) located at 77 Forsyth Street, Atlanta, GA 30303.

Members of the news media and the public can attend the roundtable after being cleared by building security.  Members of the news media please RSVP to Justin.Harclerode@mail.house.gov by email or phone (202) 225-9446.
