The Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, chaired by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), will hold a hearing next week on the status of the Coast Guard’s current acquisition program to replace aging vessels and aircraft, and the program’s sustainability.

The Coast Guard began a process of recapitalizing its aging vessels and aircraft in the late 1990’s, and the process continues today.  Next week’s hearing will examine the status of the recapitalization program, associated cost increases and schedule delays, unplanned capital needs brought about by delays in the acquisition program, and the performance of new assets.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO), which will testify, will also release a new report on the Coast Guard’s acquisitions program in conjunction with the hearing.

The Subcommittee hearing, entitled, “Coast Guard Readiness,” is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in 2253 Rayburn House Office Building
