Purpose of the Hearing

The Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials met on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building to receive testimony on Railroad-Owned Solid Waste Transload Facilities. The purpose of the hearing was to examine the growing concern in the Northeast that some railroads are using federal preemption standards to shield themselves from important state and local environmental laws regarding the movements of municipal solid waste (“MSW”).
